Today my team [6 ppl and mgr] had a meeting with the VP of my Org. It was reg an organizational change and new vision for the team. The VP was very good speaker and was easily able to captivate our attention during his briefing. He did an excellent job of describing the long term vision and make us feel that we would go ahead and "own" the world :). Eventually when I came back from the meeting, reading few lines of code looked too tiny a task in the larger scheme of things ..so I decided to call it a day :) .... are pep talk productive ? .. long term -yes, short term - I call it a day :P
P.S: Amz as an org looks much more flat than places I worked before. While I was at IBM I used to sit in a cabin next to a Distinguished Engineer from my team.In fact I was second line report to him and the only conversation in 14 months was 1 smile while going home !!.
